I recently got the opportunity to spend a long weekend seeing the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth with Travel Texas to learn more about them. Major Fort Worth activities include line dancing at Billy Bob’s and seeing the daily cattle drive at the Stockyards. While Dallas tourist attractions include the Margarita Mile and colorful districts like Deep Ellum. Don’t forget to taste some true Texas barbecue while in DFW!

Go Mural Hunting in Deep Ellum
If I moved to Dallas, I would want to live in Deep Ellum. This trendy neighborhood is bright and colorful—literally. There are paintings on every corner! There are plenty of trendy restaurants, bars, music venues, local stores, and other options available. You could spend hours photographing Deep Ellum’s Instagrammable murals.
Dallas Margarita Mile
Raising your glasses to the Dallas Margarita Mile! Dallas claimed to be the birthplace of the frozen margarita (the first device was installed there in 1971), and they took that role carefully. Download the Margarita Mile app and stop at several locations throughout the Mile to win some Dallas gear! Stops on the Dallas Margarita Mile include Beto & Son (with their famous Liquid Nitrogen Margarita. It can be read about further down the page), the Revolver Margarita at Revolver Taco Lounge, the Roca Rita at The Tipsy Alchemist, the “Original” El Fenix Margarita at El Fenix, and the CowboyRita at AT&T Stadium, to name a few.
Professional Sports Game
Sports are popular in Texas. Between the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Mavericks. There’s a lot of Dallas pride in the sports community. During my trip, we attended a Mavericks game and were given a unique backstage tour of the team’s locker rooms and practice court (I play a little basketball). And, believe it or not, the Dallas Mavericks are located on the Margarita Mile! The American Airlines Center offers the exclusive Mavarita, an electric blue margarita prepared with Patrón Silver, Blue Patrón Citronge Orange, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup. So you can root on the Mavericks while also getting your marg on.
Where to Eat in Dallas
Beto & Son
Come for the Mexican food; stay for the liquid nitrogen margaritas. You cannot visit Dallas’ Margarita Mile without stopping here! The Tableside Nitro Alchemy Bar offers frozen drinks (margarita, frosé, or piña colada) that are frozen at your table using liquid nitrogen. The nicest and smoothest frozen margarita I’ve ever had, and a unique experience!
Pecan Lodge
When we arrived for lunch, there was a line down the block. Most likely because this is Dallas’ most award-winning BBQ joint! They provide food every day till they run out, so arrive early. Try the beef rib, brisket (their most popular meal), pulled pork. And the “Hot Mess” – a mega-loaded sweet potato stuffed with brisket, bacon, green onions, and other ingredients is a local favorite.
Emporium Pies
Not only is this location Instagram nirvana, but it’s also delicious. Pies to try include Dr. Love, the Smooth Operator, and Cloud Nine. Their flagship store, Bishop Arts (314 N. Bishop Avenue), is also their nicest location. So swing by for some pie and a gram, then explore the lively Bishop Arts neighborhood while you’re there!
Vidorra
While in Dallas’ Deep Ellum, visit Vidorra for some Mexican cuisine and beverages. And by cocktails, I mean margaritas. And by margaritas, I mean going to a party and buying the Large Vidorrita. It is a giant fish bowl-style margarita that serves everyone. I also like their Flaming Fundido (melted Oaxaca cheese served with tortillas, if you didn’t know).
Getting There
If you’re traveling from Austin, like myself, I recommend checking out Vonlane. A luxury bus service that connects Austin to Fort Worth or Dallas. The entire coach is designated as first-class seats.
So you’ll have lots of legroom, seat recline, and amenities like drinks, snacks, and Wi-Fi. It was far more pleasant and handy for me than flying, and it was also faster and less expensive. While driving is another alternative, if you’re prepared to spend a little extra. This is a peaceful and comfortable way to travel within Texas and arrive feeling rejuvenated. I would 100% do it again! If you have plan to see Dallas, then book a cheap flight ticket to Dallas at low airfares.
